About the CAC of Southeast Indiana

We’re on a mission to help children heal and seek justice after an allegation of child sexual abuse, neglect, or assault.

We help children become kids again by helping them begin the healing process. The Children’s Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana is a child-friendly nonprofit corporation created to minimize the trauma suffered by victims of child abuse. We designed the Center with a multidisciplinary team approach which facilitates the prevention, detection, investigation and treatment of child abuse.

What is a Child Advocacy Center?

Children who are believed to witness a crime, be a victim of assault or abuse, or who are sexually abused come to a Child Advocacy Center (CAC). They arrive by referral from law enforcement, a prosecutor’s office, or a Department of Child Services caseworker.

While at the CAC, trained forensic interviewers talk to the child in a secure, safe, and neutral environment. Discreet cameras and microphones in the interview room record the child’s account of events.

At no point at the CAC does the child have to see law enforcement officers or prosecutors. In the past, children often had to tell what happened again and again to different people like school personnel, detectives, child protective services, psychologists and more – often in locations where a child might feel vulnerable or scared.

What’s new? CACSEI operates two other “satellite” locations

Coverage map
CACSEI primarily serves 10 counties across 3 offices in southeastern Indiana. In 2019, CACSEI also served families from 15 other Indiana counties.

CACSEI operates primarily out of our Dillsboro location. However, a satellite office in Madison operates 2–3 days a week. That office opened in 2012. In 2019, a new Greensburg satellite CAC opened with 5 day a week operation.

No child should have to sit in the back of a car for an hour or more one-way after a trauma. Both satellite CACs bring the same equipment, team, and investigative approach closer to families and children.

We equipped the satellite CACs with recording equipment, separate rooms for law enforcement and children, comfy waiting areas for non-offending caregivers, and Victim Advocacy connections.

Nearly Fifteen years of impact and justice

Since 2009, CACSEI has served over 6,000 children in Southeast Indiana who were alleged victims of child abuse.

CACSEI is a place where multiple agencies come together with one goal in mind: to provide security, justice and healing for abused children and their non-offending family members. Now when a child has a terrible truth to tell, there’s a safe and supportive place to talk one on one with a trained individual in a single interview.

CACSEI primarily serves Dearborn, Decatur, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, Bartholomew, and Jackson Counties.
